BGSU Financial Aid Workshop

Student Financial Aid (SFA) is planning a terrific event for you and/or your parents! Come join us on Saturday, January 23, 2016 or Friday, February 5, 2016 for a Student Financial Aid Workshop which will provide information specific to the financial aid application process at BGSU.

SFA staff will be available throughout the event to offer advice and information related to the financial aid application process. Sessions will describe the basics of financial aid, review various scholarship opportunities, and provide an overview of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs.

One highlight of the event will be an overview of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We will be able to help answer any questions you may have with the completion of this financial aid application.

Saturday, January 23, 2016 (9:00 a.m. - noon)

Registration and Refreshments 9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
Opening Comments 9:30 - 9:45 a.m. Welcome to Bowling Green State University.
What is available? Aid Programs, Scholarships, and Student Employment 9:45 - 10:10 a.m. Learn about the federal, state and institutional grant and loan programs available to help make college more affordable. Explore scholarship opportunities at BGSU. Learn how to put our Searchable Scholarship Guide to work for you. Also learn about part-time job opportunities, including Federal Work Study employment.
Preparing for BGSU - Your Aid, Costs, and Bills 10:10 - 10:40 a.m. Begin the BGSU budgeting process. Set up a four year budget that includes estimated Financial Aid awards and the options for making a payment. Learn the basics of how aid is applied to BGSU costs and how the monthly eBilling system work.
Break 10:40 - 10:50 a.m. Enjoy refreshments. Students who wish to attend the optional breakout session go to the Theater by 11:00 a.m.; Parents remain in the Ballroom for the FAFSA session.
Filing the FAFSA 10:50 - 11:30 a.m. Get answers to the most common FAFSA questions. This session will help minimize errors when completing the FAFSA. Helpful hints will be provided for accurately reporting income, assets, and dependency status.
Student Breakout Session (Optional) 10:50 - 11:30 a.m. This session, just for students, includes additional tips about completing University business online. Learn how to access financial aid information and keep up to date on actions you need to complete. Come learn about BGSU and enjoy Q&A with current BGSU students.
Return to Ballroom 11:30 - 11:35 a.m. All guests return to the Ballroom.
Next Steps & Closing Comments 11:40 - noon Overview of the financial aid timeline including when to expect your award letter. Review what comes next for admitted students and other options to explore. Two scholarships will be awarded and evaluations will be collected at the conclusion of this session.
Individual Q&A Session (optional) Noon - 12:30 p.m. Your chance to ask specific questions regarding your unique financial aid situation in a one-on-one setting. Admissions, Student Employment, and Residence Life representatives will also be available. Sky Bank Room (201 BTSU).
Campus Tours (optional) 12:15 p.m. If you have not yet had the opportunity to go on the Office of Admissions tour recently, now is your chance. Allow 90 minutes for this informative tour.
